I always want to give all of you the best version of me, and sometimes that means talking about stuff I don’t want to. The hard stuff that I think a lot of people forget goes on behind the scenes with there favorite authors. The moments of weakness and doubt that plague all of us each and everyday. Speaking about these things isn’t a moment of weakness, it shows we are humans.
Did you know I almost quit writing?
Or better yet, I should say I almost quit publishing. I had just released Room Twenty-Three, my RL was in the toilet, and it seemed as if there was nothing I could do to get people to read my books.
No one was talking about me on TikTok (no one’s fault by my own), no one was seeing my social media post, and my ads were useless. In that moment, that was when doubt began to creep in. But then the most amazing thing happened. I got a message from a reader that changed everything. Honestly, I was logging onto Instagram to deactivate my account, but something told me to check the message button and this is what I found.

Authors put themselves out in the world in a way very few have dare. I can’t speak for all authors but there is a part of me in my writing. Each character is a reflection of what is going on in my life and sometimes even people that I interact with. In doing so, I and many other authors are bearing our souls to the world to judge and comment on. For some its easy, just write the book and pretend no one reads it, but for the most of us, we obsess over what readers think to the point that we doubt our abilities.
But moments like these are what save us.
I can’t speak for other authors but trust me when I say messages from readers always come when I need them the most. So, if you’re ever wondering if you should send that message or email to your favorite author do it. It could be that one thing that stops them from giving up!
